Have you ever tried carpet stain removal yourself only for the stain to come back with a vengeance after the carpet is dry?
We’ve all had mishaps at home and at work and found ourselves reaching for whatever’s in the cupboard under the kitchen sink to treat it. The thing is, it may look like the stain’s gone, but even after some vigorous scrubbing and rubbing, it’s often still there – lurking in the fibres.

Whether at home or work, if you’ve ever had to treat a carpet stain yourself, it’s always worth getting a professional carpet cleaner in as soon as possible afterwards to make sure it is gone for ever.
Acting fast and with the right treatment can reduce the damage and avoid embarrassing stains. However, treating a stain yourself can be followed-up by getting a professional in to make sure it’s gone for good.
Here’s some tips on how to not make things worse before calling in the pros:
If spillages occur always blot the liquids and never rub into the carpet fibres. For instance, spillages like tea and coffee contain “tanning” which will need professional hot water extraction with the correct solutions.
Remember that detergent isn’t a carpet’s best friend and by using this will leave residues in the carpet that will need to be professional extracted. If left, the residues will act as a magnet for dirt in a very short space of time and make the area much worse.
Usage of so called “stain removal” solutions, that are on all the supermarket shelves, should not really be used as they can set stains permanently. This is a huge misconception but also a multi-million pound industry.
Never use a bleaching agent on a carpet. If you have already got this far, the carpet will need either a professional carpet repair or an insurance claim for new carpet.
There’s lots of myths around treating carpet stains with salt or white wine too. Salt might in fact just ‘fix’ the stain (that’s why it’s used in fashion to fix fabric dies). And wine – well we prefer to drink it rather than throwing it over the carpet. If you have any questions at all about carpet stain removal, please feel free to drop us a line anytime.
